What’s Wrong With Multi-Level Marketing in this New Millenium?

MLM, the concept of networking in a structured compensation system of paying independent business owners to market and sell a companies product or services can no longer claim to be new and, thus, exempt from the normal rules of the market and the way goods and services are sold. They have been tried and, for the most part, have failed. MLM or Network marketing in essence is dead.

Some companies launched in the past 20 to 30 years have been miserable failures in spite of offering excellent products. If you’re looking to achieve financial freedom from home, specifically through a “MLM” or network marketing opportunity, you’re in for a rude awakening. The industry has changed and I wish to make you aware of some very unsettling insights that you will need to understand if you plan to make more than $10,000/mo from home in 2010 and beyond.

The promises of old-school MLM and “life-long” residual income are all but dead for the average person. They have been cut down at the knees by an unlikely culprit. Right now, network marketing is in a struggle to find itself in a time where people leave as fast as they join, the cost to sign a new rep has sky-rocketed, and when “newer, bigger, and better” dominates the landscape of network marketing. You can get ahead of the curve for a while if you have the time, money, and energy, but it’s only a matter of time before it will drain you and your pocketbook dry.

The basic question that needs to be asked is this: If this product or service is so great, then why isn’t it being sold through the customary marketing system that has served human society for thousands of years? Why does it need to resort to a “special marketing” scheme like an MLM? Why does everyone need to be so inexperienced at marketing this! Is the product just a thin cover for what is really a pyramid scheme of exploiting others? Network marketing has always been based on the idea of working for 3-5 years and building a life long residual income that you can eventually pass on to your grand kids.

But with the onset of today’s internet, and the ability to “Pre-Launch” companies to a finite set of professional marketers and entice newbies to join, spend countless hours training, doing three-way calls with their upline and so forth, Networkers inevitably flock to these “New and Better” companies promising riches if you get in on the ground floor before the other ten’s of thousands of enthusiastic wanna-be’s trying to “get in on top”.

Some modern incarnations of MLMs attempt to address this particular problem by limiting the number of people you can sponsor, say, to two, three, four, or five. But the same geometric expansion problems exist; the failure mechanism has just been slowed down a bit. And now there is the added problem of even more unnecessary layers in the organization. The claim that an MLM is merely a “common man” implementation of a normal real-world distribution channel becomes even more absurd in this case. This system can give a false sense of hope to the “common man” and keep them around a bit longer, with a false sense of security about there financial future. They may make money and experience some short term success in this revised type of compensation plan for the masses.

And if they don’t, it doesn’t matter because another shiny new MLM will launch in about 3 to 6 months, and when it does, and the music stops, the people at the bottom scramble to find their seat in the chain, destroying their old company from the bottom up in the process. This has resulted in a variable roller coaster affect of peaks and valley’s of the income of those that actually do make money in some companies, over a dwindling supply of warm bodies, complete unanswered promises of success, lifestyle, and wealth. Make no mistake about it… In network marketing, people are the commodity that is traded, and YOU are very valuable if you have a dream and desire to prosper in this arena.

Where is the “switch” that can be flipped in an MLM when enough sales people are recruited into an opportunity or program? In a normal company a manager says, “We have enough, let’s stop hiring people at this point.” But in an MLM, there is no way to do this. An MLM is a human “churning” machine with no “off button.” Out of control by design, its gears will grind up the money, time, credibility, and entrepreneurial energy of well-meaning people who joined merely to supplement their income. There is simply no way to avoid the built-in failure mechanism of MLMs. If a company chooses to market themselves this way, it will eventually “hire or recruit” (with no base pay and charging for the privilege to join) far too many people. Thus, the only “control system” will be the inevitable losses and subsequent bad image the MLM company will gain after it does what it was designed to do: fail. And sooner or later we have got to stop blaming this particular MLM company or upline, or trainers or anyone who should have had more common sense and decency, and admit that the MLM technique itself is fundamentally flawed.
So what’s the solution to MLM or network marketing companies? It really all depends on what you personally want out of your business, and if you’re willing to deal with the negatives that come with an MLM these days. The promise of life-long residual income is all but gone. There is the rare one individual in a 1000 or so exception, but as a whole, Network Marketing has turned into a quick churn blender of “quick-turn” pureed soup driven by greed, hype, and fear of loss where only the true, incredibly skilled professionals can reliably make any significant amount of money and they tend to jump from one opportunity to the next, clambering at the top of their pre-built mass of followers and dragging them onto the next.

Better to just steer clear of this monster to begin with.

So What is the Solution to Building a viable Business to supplement your income and master wealth creation?

The Solution is in top tier opportunities in direct sale where you are actually marketing a quality, high end product or service that the masses can use as a stand alone purchase. Whether or not these individuals are interested in pursuing a business opportunity or not, and one that pays you instantly, and offers a higher return of profitability much quicker than any mlm or network marketing company can. One that does not require any sort of downline to speak of to actually make money, and has the ability to offer and provide quality low cost training that will produce very profitable results almost instantaneously, in a matter of days, or weeks, instead of months or years.
