If you are reading this, I wish to share with you a few tidbits about myself. I grew up during the 1960′s and 70′s and just like every other kid from my generation, the coolest technology I used back then was a reel to reel tape recorder, an eight track player, and a Texas Instrument calculator. I actually was learning math on a slide rule when my teacher at the time wanted to introduce our generation to the new technology and we started using calculators in the class room.

I was a very good student, received good grades, went to work for a local nursery company part-time during the school year and worked 54 hours a week in the summers As a teenager I learned the value of money and hard work at very early age.

After High school, I attended college at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), in Rochester NY, where I discovered a passion for the restaurant industry, in the school of Hotel and Tourism. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Service Administration and was quickly recruited by a major restaurant corporation in the casual theme restaurant category and started my management career.

I jumped right into my career with enthusiasm and never looked back on the decision. All of my adult life, I worked very hard for company owned chains and privately owned operations. By the time I reached my late thirties and early forties, I was still doing what I was doing in my twenties without making any career or financial gains!

I was trading 60 to 70 hours a week making other companies wealthy. I was sacrificing my life, my family, and my friends, trading Hours for Dollars not earning any more than I was when I started in the mid 80′s. I had no savings and no retirement to speak of. The traditional ideology of: go to school, get an education, get a job, go to work, save money, buy a house, and retire in forty years, was not working for me. I was in trouble! When I looked around…. Everyone I knew like me, was in the identical situation! Where was the prosperity everyone was talking about all of my life!

“Reality Finally Set In As I Looked at My Accomplishments…. And What I Have Already Sacrificed In My Life”

I really took a hard look at my choices and decided that change was necessary. I needed a new perspective and direction because up to now, my restaurant career was not full-filling all of my needs, especially the monetary one. I ventured into the realm of network marketing and multi-level marketing, (mlm) companies looking for a way to leverage my time, and replicate my efforts by networking and building a business.

During the early nineties I started with the A-company, and with a white board and a marker in hand, I began going door to door, passing out business cards at gas stations, putting flyers on cars, getting within three feet of anyone that would listen to what I was saying.

A 1000 presentations later, I was still at square one, and still working 60 to 70 hours a week. I had recruited about 24 people to go into business with me over a five year period, but most quit, and my business fizzled. I had a stack of business kits in the basement with a bunch of shampoo and detergent in each, a dream, and a burning desire, but no income to show for my efforts. My first marriage failed, as her dream changed and she packed up both of my beautiful daughters Megan at 6 years young and Taylor just 4 years, and left me. That became the worst time in my life. That was devastating for me, not to be the father that I was hoping I could be, and able to provide for my family the way I so desired. I went into a depression that took some time to come out of to start living my life again!

“The Leadership and Training I had Expected
Was No Where to Be Found. It Was Like Joining a Pack Of
Wild Buffalo’s Running Off of A Cliff!”

My mentor and friend at the time was my only support system for both my personal mental health and also as well as the guidance in the launch of my MLM career. In that business his training was simple. he just said “keep doing what your doing, go to hotel meetings, set up one on ones for coffee meetings, drive all over the country where ever necessary, and promote, promote, promote!” He would continue to pressure me to go to functions, buy hundreds of 5 dollar “motivational” tapes, and so on, and he wasn’t making any more money or profit than I. I was quickly going into debt trying to make this work, maxing out all of my credit cards.

What I was being taught were the same techniques that his upline was teaching him. These techniques were being reinforced as the proper way to build a successful network marketing business and how to become wealthy in the 1990′s. But I was going broke! What was I thinking!
