Most network marketers struggle in opportunities that do not fulfill some of the basic characteristics of successful business models. Now if you are a network marketer and have some experience I am preaching to the choir when it comes to knowing what to look for. No matter your work ethic or systems you may have in place to build a successful organization the business model must support you and your systems to be successful and profitable for the long haul.

When reviewing a direct sales opportunity or network marketing opportunity I always look for five characteristics that need to be present to actively promote a particular business opportunity.

1. The business model should provide the consumer a viable, asset based non-consumable product that does not lose its value. Wow that goes against conventional wisdom for sure, but why would anyone want to promote a product or service that after the purchase has no value or cannot be exchanged for more something of more tangible value in the future after you initially purchase your product or service.

Now most people see this when they decide to attend college or university to obtain a higher education. They invest in their education with the hopeful outcome of obtaining a quality paying job in the field of choice. Same thing should apply when looking at a network marketing opportunity.

2. The business model should provide a compensation plan that has very easy qualifications to create a cash flow for continued profit and growth. Makes sense, You would not want to invest years into marketing, advertising, building a business that just did not pay a return of your time, energy, or money to be able to not only live on, but to prosper and create financial security quickly, within a reasonable amount of time.

3. This business model should provide some form of unconditional guarantee or protection for its consumers and distributors. As business professionals know, any product or service of any caliber should have the endorsement of the company, and their willingness to provide a guarantee to stand behind that product know matter what. Toyota motor company, even though they had a tarnished image due to some unfortunate electronic issues, stood by their product, supported their customers and quickly fixed the defective issues in their product, a guarantee of satisfaction to their customer, standing behind their product. if they had not done so, they would have gone out of business shortly after the problems they had with their automobiles.

4. The business model should provide experienced leadership and vision to steer the business in the direction where they not only are successful, but provide opportunity for advancement and financial success for participating distributors or representatives. All to often, many mlm launches do not have their ducks in a row, sort to speak, and short on long term strategy and fail to support their community of distributors and go out of business as quickly as they came in. The corporate leadership team should have extensive experience in the field, understand distributor relations and provide the services necessary to be successful for the long haul.

5. The business model needs an up to date, innovative and cutting edge replicate-able marketing system to promote and advertise the opportunity to jump start each and every participants success immediately. All to often, companies launch with the latest technology and bells and whistles on their respective websites but offer old outdated modes of training and systems to advertise and promote their opportunity that just do not work anymore in this ever changing fast paced world of texting, social media, local mobile marketing, instant messaging and mobile app communication. They must be on the cutting edge and teach modern strategies for their representatives to promote their businesses quickly to generate cash flow and profit to live on.
