With the internet today there is a ton of information out and you are probably being bombarded with hundreds of techniques on how to generate free leads to build your business. With all of the systems out there, all of the training you may be receiving, all of the informational webinars you are attending, all of the emails you are receiving, there is one true common denominator: there is no magic bullet where you are going to wake up in 24 hours, and suddenly be inundated with 100′s of people contacting you to learn more about your business and join the one you are promoting.

As I continue to market my business and study what’s working now, listening to all the experts advice on how to generate free leads for my business, I constantly have to remind myself to follow these five guidelines I created to eliminate confusion about how I generate free leads for my business.
Pick up to three marketing techniques that you are comfortable with. Choose marketing techniques that you are comfortable with. Each will have their own learning curve and take time to to implement. Each system has different pro’s and con’s but most will take some investment of time on your part to use. Techniques like article marketing, social media advertising, ( Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Swom, etc.) Video marketing (YouTube, Viddler, EasyVideo Producer), building a blog, email marketing, posting on forums, and so forth are all different venues you may choose to use to market. Decide on up to three that you will be comfortable with, become proficient with each technique and start your marketing.
Be committed and stay consistent with the techniques you choose. Any marketing strategy needs time to work. You need to repeat your effort over and over several times to attract attention to your advertising and generate interest by repeatedly putting the same message out there over and over. I do not know how many times I have spoken with a client, and they have told me they did not get any result with a campaign or technique. When I have asked them how many times or how long of a duration they used that single method or ad, they usually respond by saying once or twice, or just for a day or two. Successful ads will run over and over for weeks on end. You need to be committed to a technique, stay consistent with it and evaluate the results after a specific time period.
Maintain a set budget for any paid resources you choose. Advertising can be expensive, so choose your resources wisely. You will want to stick to a budget that you are comfortable with in order to grow your business. I cannot stress enough to my affiliates, and partners, to work within your means, and do not blow the bank. Building a business online or off, in the current economic climate will take some time, and you need to run a marathon, so spend wisely, do not put all off your eggs in one basket, and protect what you already have. If you can only free up a few hundred bucks to start, then start there. Research what others are doing right now to generate leads and duplicate that. Once you become more proficient and create some sales, then re-invest, re-invest and re-invest a percentage back into your business!
Use an automated a sales funnel that will generate additional cash flow to assist your marketing efforts. In the process, you should be using sales funnels to produce secondary income streams as a continual way of funding your primary business. Developing a blog, that offers suggestions to enhance business sales, information, assistance, tools, to grow any business and / or using companies similar to the ones I use that aid me in building my lists of readers, followers, business prospects and of course customers, that purchase additional marketing and information from me, helps fund the purchase of advertising and marketing systems that I use to generate interest in my primary business. Your list of contacts may or may not join your business directly, but you may be able to sell them on some of the tools you are using to build your business. Its a Win-Win for everyone you attract to your blog or website.
Stay focused on the marketing plan you create. I can’t stress this enough, even with all of the training available and the hottest newest techniques being offered stay focused on a marketing plan and stick to it. If people see you jumping around from one system to another, and marketing one program after another, you will fail to attract a following of serious professionals to your business that will trust what you are teaching them. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with sharing information and if something just down and out does not work for the amount of effort put forth I will be the first to shout out and let you know. You simply need to give your systems a chance to work for you before starting another technique. Let what you add to your advertising arsenal compliment what you are already doing not distract you from it. Stay focused, continue utilizing techniques you committed to to be able to fairly evaluate their success or failure, then either add on or learn another system and replace the ones that are not attaining the desired results.
